DREAM GIGS, FUTURE PLANS AND SPOILED BRAT SYNDROME.
This week I’ve had the opportunity to ask some questions to artist Timmy ahead of the release of his single ‘Spoiled Brat Syndrome’ which is going to be out on the 31st of March. Here’s what he had to say.
AG: So, your promo set out like a tarot card that reads Chapter 1 – are all your future singles going to be linked in this way? Will it be a bit of a concept thing regarding these ‘chapters’?
T: You’re going to have to wait and see!
AG: What was the inspiration behind the song?
T: Musically it’s something I manifested for 2 years. Every part and section in this song was something I once thought “I want to do a song with….”, little did I know it’d all be in one song. Lyrically it’s a vent song, a bunch of different lyrical ideas I had which ended up being connected, together in one song. This specific song being the vent song on my album really worked with the production and meant I could manically switch vocal styles to make the story telling more impactful.
AG: In a wider perspective what is your biggest inspiration musically and personally?
T: To answer both questions, my biggest inspiration honestly is needing to confront the lyric topics so I can actually move on with my life. If I wasn’t saying what I wanted to say I’d just feel immensely unfulfilled.
AG: What vibes would you say your music gives off?
T: 20 year old that doesn’t know how to delete tracks in a DAW.
AG: What was the recording/development like? Was it daunting?
T: It was horrible to be honest. Mixing this track was so fucking difficult because of how many layers it is. My computer could barely handle the project. Everything just took so long, the fact that it’s done is just relief more than anything. I never thought it was going to end.
AG: It must be nerve-wracking releasing music and not knowing how people will respond to it, how have you coped with it? Any advice for someone looking to pursue a music career?
T: You really just have to believe in yourself. I’m my own biggest critic anyways so I know there’s nothing anyone else can say that I haven’t already thought twice. In terms of advice, just work hard. Talent isn’t real, it’s all passion and hard work. You put enough effort into anything you do in life, it’ll work. Be aware of the people in your life who try to give you advice. Really look at the person and think “do I want to end up like them?”. At the end of the day, you live with your choices and you have to do what’s right for you. Learn from your own mistakes.
AG: Have you got any live performances planned? If so, where?
T: Summer will be the first gig
AG: What’s your dream venue to play?
T: I’m not sure what my dream venue is, but my dream gig is Rock in Rio. I’m also wanting to settle down in Brazil so eventually it’ll be my local gig.
AG: What was your first gig?
T: My first gig was when I was 13 or 14 in a covers band. That gig was a life changing moment for me, the adrenaline rush was mental. It was at a venue in Gateshead. I can still remember it so clearly. First song we played was the Pretender by Foo Fighters.
AG: If you could go to any gig in the past, what would it be and why?
T: I’d 100% go the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. That entire gig was incredible.
AG: What’s the plan for your music in the next few months?
T: I’m just working. Single 2 will be coming out in June. I’m wanting to just get my album finished.
